Consulting Services

Petrojen has designed and implemented a wide variety of oil and gas wells throughout the USA and South America.
Drilling Engineering & Project Management

Designed over 500 wells in the past 30 years ranging in depths from 500'-20,000', with each having its own specific nuance. Well designs include vertical, directional, ERD and horizontal.  Provided project management in CA for SPR, Maranatha, Venoco, Seneca Resources, Aera Energy, Vintage, Oxy, PacOps, Tartan Energy, and Victoria. We have also managed international projects offshore Trinidad for Trinmar and the Ecuadorian Amazon Jungle for Oryx.

Horizontal & Extended Reach Drilling

We have been involved in horizontal drilling since the first wells were drilled in CA during the late 1980's at Elk Hills. Since then, we have been designing long, medium and intermediate radius wells with cemented, partially cemented, and un-cemented completions depending on the asset requirements. ERD wells include Cleary Petroleum's Suisun 101 where we drilled the well under the Sacramento River from the environmentally-sensitive Grizzly Island.

Shale Drilling/Asset Development

Petrojen staff has been designing and implementing Monterey Shale wells since the early 1990's. Understanding the native fracture network and the proper completion is the difference between a commercial well and a dryhole. Shale wells are also very economically-sensitive that demand low capital costs. With the experience of drilling close to 50 shale wells, we have developed optimized design templates based on specific reservoir characteristics.

Many drilling engineering firms focus primarily on the drilling phase of the wellbore construction and the completion does not get the attention it needs for optimum production. We place special emphasis on the completion and have developed options that will provide high productivity at a fraction of the cost of a traditional cemented and perforated completion. Using the proper mud type and downhole jewelry minimizes skin damage and in many cases prevents an acid job. Managing high mud losses to the pay zone is also one of our strengths.

Efficient Well Completions

  • OEHI Elk Hills Mud Study in 2000

  • Taylor Lease - Ventura Ave Field in 2002

  • Sunset Vahevala ERD Project - VAFB in 2005

  • BV Hills Monterey Shale in 2010

  • Aera Casing Test Mitigation in 2011

  • Aera Deep Shale/Repetto Zone in 2013

  • Pac Ops Houchin/Hogan P&A's 2015-Present

Field Revitalization

With so many mature fields today that are borderline economic, finding ways to increase production is another one of our attributes. We have successfully applied new technology to the Elk Hills, Ventura Ave and Los Lobos fields. Utilizing existing wellbores and efficient completions, we were able to control capital costs within budget and provide IP's above those forecasted. This approach has allowed for continued economic growth in fields previously written off.
